And the one that got away!

The monsoon was back in action and despite some heavy rains around the state, we managed to get a whopping 1/8th inch of rain.
We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here back in 1986. Since then, the Legal Tender Restaurant and Saloon has had a variety of owners. Now, Allen Affeldt and Murphy O’Brien have re-opened it and my buddy Mike Gintert is running the kitchen and serving great food! It was originally built in 1881 as a mercantile store across from the new Atchison, Topeka & Santa Re Railroad station built a year earlier. Amtrak’s Southwest Chief stops in Lamy on its scenic trip between Chicago and Los Angeles.

I hoped we could get through this dry, hot Summer without a fire but it was not to be. The Black Feather fire (sparked by lightning) is burning up near Dulce, NM and is at 2500 acres so far. Thankfully rain has moved in for the last few days to help keep it in check.

And another full moon is due on the 30th!

Another round of critters around the casa.

Another collection of the wildlife spotted around the casa over the last few days (along with some video). As more rain moves in, more critters are out. It was especially nice to see a coyote out looking for prey and hopefully it will hang around and catch all the nasty pack rats that are eating up our cars!
