Salinas Pueblo Missions 4_17_23

Because the winds were forecast to blow upwards of 60 mph on my birthday, we decided to visit a new place earlier in the week. The missions at the pueblos of Quarai and Abó (near Manzano, NM) were built in the early 1600’s aside the pueblos that existed since the mid 1100s. They are also called the “Salt Missions” due to the abundance of the mineral in the nearby dry lake beds. The missions and pueblos were abandoned in the 1670s due to drought and raiding Apaches.

Easter 4_9_23

Started off the day with a wonderful hike along the Santa Fe Rail Trail, then welcomed the first flock of Cedar Waxwings (you can see the small drop of red on their wings in one photo), watched the clouds roll by and capped it off with a modest sunset.
