Drove up above the Village of Pecos to investigate but decided to have lunch along our favorite river, the Pecos. Lots of mayflies and larger winged insects are out for the Spring, so the fish are biting and the fishermen are catching! While our spot was very nice, there was an excess of trash along other banks that we tried to clean up a little. : (
While photographing some nice cumulus congestus storm clouds, I noticed a small funnel cloud had developed along the edge of the storm clouds. We can get tornadoes but they are extremely rare and never very large. We do get quite a few dust devils that re-arrange the outdoor furniture and leave a layer of dust if the windows are open.
The recent rains have helped green things up considerably. Our irises are now in full bloom and the wildlife (like thrashers, scales quail and fence lizards) are up and about.
Nice flowering cloud at sunset probably signifying the end of the stormy weather.
Three days of hard rain and hail have yielded about 5″ of rain (which is a little under half of what we usually get for the year). Clouds billowed up on the first day and then darkened and opened up with rain. Then a loud hailstorm lasted for an hour. Glad to get the moisture

A little Black-chinned Hummingbird is the first one I’ve spotted at the feeder this year. He was buzzing about and flying his territorial dive-bombing but I wasn’t able to get a photo of him until now. The bluebirds and scaled quails are also starting to appear… so Spring has sprung!
A combination of shots taken early in April and again this last Thursday (4/24). Our first Galisteo hike was too durn cold so we went up to Pecos for our picnic. Yesterday we went back to the Galisteo Basin and had a nice hike around the boulders there.
Thanks to all of you who sent along birthday wishes! We decided to stay in and watch the snow fall which are two of my favorite activities. By noon this Easter day, everything has melted away.
