DDay

Today is the 77th anniversary Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of France on the beaches of Normandy. The view from the LST is probably one that Dad experienced on Bougainville less than a year earlier in the South Pacific. All those served and those who gave their lives… worked to defeat a fascist regime built on lies and hate.

Something to remember during our current days.

Big Tesuque Creek 6_3_21

Our regular pilgrimage up to the Ski Basin and hiking the Aspen Vista trail. I have an enormous number of photos from all the same spots on the trail… but it’s one of our favorite places to relax and enjoy the falling water. It’s nice to see the change from last year’s tent worm infestation that defoliated all the aspens! Also including a falling water stream relaxation video at no charge ! !

Memorial Day 2021

In the vast history of WWII, little is written about contribution of the United States Naval Reserve Waves. Mom enlisted after she graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1943. She then graduated from the Naval Midshipman’s School at Northhampton, MA as an Ensign and was assigned to the 12th Naval District in San Francisco, CA. Her job was to run messages between each department… she was even trained to use a pistol! Dad was her boss and they married soon after the end of the war.

This Memorial Day post is for all the women who served in the Waves, Wacs, as Nurses and others… who get little credit for the sacrifice and contributions they’ve made during wartime.

Eldorado Preserve geology 5_20_21

Brought our friends visiting from out-of-town to see part of our preserve. Very nice hike to a river bed and interesting geologic formations.

Bullsnake 5_19_21

They are good at camouflage and Joan nearly stepped on this one while we were on our morning walk! In the Youtube video, you can see him using his tongue to track his path. Incredible creatures who keep the mouse and rat populations in check. It’s probably looking for that bunny I saw yesterday!
