Memorial Day

Memorial Day is our time to honor the fallen service men and women of wars past. I think it should also be a time to remember all of those who died who never wore a uniform, never charged a line or fired a gun at another person.

There are always innocent civilians who die in wars… elderly, women and children, who are killed in the crossfire. That number is usually equal to the number of combatant deaths and many times it is double that, or more.

Bullets are not exact, bombs are not smart and wars are not surgical; no matter what our leaders tell us. Along with those who served and died, we should remember those who died who’s only experience at war, was being in the way.

Maybe that might give pause the next time we bang the drum to go to war.
